Cowgirl Basketball Hires Mike Petrino As A New Assistant Coach

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming head women's basketball coach Joe Legerski announced Friday the hiring of Mike Petrino as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl program. His duties officially began on August 10, 2011. He replaces Kristin Becker who left the program to pursue other opportunities.
"Mike brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and coaching experience to the Wyoming basketball program," said head coach Joe Legerski.
Petrino comes to Wyoming from Central Catholic High School in Portland, Ore. For the past five years, he has served as the head varsity boys basketball coach. During that time, he amassed a 97-37 overall record. His teams have won five straight Mount Hood Conference Championships, made three Oregon State Activities Association State Tournament Appearances and two third place finishes. For his efforts, Petrino was selected the Mount Hood Conference Coach of the Year three-times and the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Coach in 2008 and 2011. Previous to that, he was the Junior Varsity and Assistant Varsity Coach from 2001-2006 at Central Catholic.
A native of Montana, he earned his degree in secondary education in 1999 from Montana State Billings. Petrino and his wife, Kelly, have a daughter Jamieson.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to work for Coach Legerski," said Petrino. "I'm looking forward to continuing the success of the Wyoming Cowgirl program."
