Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Announces 2000-2001 Schedule
Aug. 22, 2000
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Five teams that competed in postseason play will highlight the Wyoming Cowgirl 2000-2001 basketball schedule, announced Tuesday by UW Associate Athletic Director Barbara Burke.
Brigham Young, Colorado State and Utah competed in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, while New Mexico and Kansas State played in the WNIT. The Cowgirls will face the Kansas State Wildcats in the opening round of the Oregon State Classic, and have a regular home-and-away series with BYU, CSU, New Mexico and Utah.
The schedule will open up with the Cowgirls playing the first six of eight games at home, beginning with an exhibition game on Nov. 9 and ending with Weber State on Dec. 6. They will play in the Oregon State Beaver Classic on Nov. 25-26.
The Cowgirls will open up Mountain West Conference play at home on Jan. 13 against rival Colorado State. They will hit the road the following weekend with match-ups against Brigham Young and Utah.
"I'm excited that we could increase our non-conference home schedule quite a bit this year," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "This will give us a chance to showcase the Cowgirls in Laramie early in the year. I believe that we have put together a very challenging non-conference schedule that should prepare us for another tough conference schedule."
Fisher enters her third season with the Cowgirl Basketball Program. She returns four starters and ten letterwinners to this year's squad, including First Team All-MWC selection Carrie Bacon.
