The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will play their final exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 7, as they host the Metro State Roadrunners. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

Wyoming opened up the exhibition season with a convincing 93-48 victory over the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Tuesday night. They were led by newcomer Emma Langford who recorded 25 points and five assists in 26 minutes of play. She was followed by freshman Ashley Sickles with 13 points, while senior Elisabeth Dissen added 11.

The Cowgirls return one starter and eight letterwinners to a team that finished with a 24-7 overall record, 12-4 in the Mountain West Conference and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Of those returners, they are led by senior Megan McGuffey and junior Aubrey Vandiver. McGuffey played in 29 games last season and averaged 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds. Vandiver was a Third Team All-MWC selection, while averaging 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds a year ago. Other key contributors back for the Cowgirls are seniors Elisabeth Dissen and Rebecca Vanderjagt, along with juniors Mallory Cline and Gemma Koehler, and sophomores Hillary Carlson and Jade Kennedy. They also welcome six newcomers with Leah Fitzgerald, Brenna Freeze, Emma Langford, Randi Richardson, Kristen Scheffler and Ashely Sickles.

 

 

Metro State returns one and six letterwinners to a team that went 19-10 overall and 14-5 in the RMAC a year ago. The two teams have met ten previous times during the regular season. UW holds the series record 10-0. The last time the two teams met was December 18, 1996 as the Cowgirls defeated Metro State, 66-54. The Roadrunners are coached by Linda Lappe, who is in her second year with the program.

Prices for the game are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children (ages three through 18). UW students with their ID can get in the game for free. It's also Family Friday night, a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids) receives 4 hotdogs, 4 Pepsi Products and 4 game tickets for $26. Tickets much be purchased prior to game day. Wyoming will open up regular season play with a pair of games on the road. They will take on the Denver Pioneers, on Friday, November 14, and the Montana Lady Griz, on Sunday, Nov. 16.
