LARAMIE, Wyo. -

For the first time this season, a Cowgirl basketball player has won Player of the Week honors. Forward Chaundra Sewell has earned Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played from Dec. 3-9, 2012. It is the first weekly award in her collegiate career.

Sewell, a senior from Broomfield, Colo., led the Cowgirls to a 2-0 record last week with road wins at Montana (58-56) and Montana State (68-60). Sewell scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Montana, while shooting .750 (6-8) from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also dished out five assists, blocked two shots and picked up a steal against the Grizzlies. Sewell scored the first six points of the game and made several key baskets throughout the contest, including her two free throws that broke a 49-49 tie with 4:17 left to play.

At Montana State, Sewell recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She shot .545 (6-11) from the field and 4-for-6 (.667) from the charity stripe. Her two blocked shots and two steals in the game tied season-highs. Sewell made several key points for the Cowgirls as they swapped leads with the Bobcats. With 12:59 left in the game, she hit a bucket to tie the game at 40. Wyoming built up a seven-point lead at 55-48 on a Sewell basket with 4:35 left in the contest and did not relinquish the lead.
