Wyoming Basketball Wins Big In Home Opener, 86-53, Over Idaho
Behind a 22-point performance from Chaundra Sewell, the Cowgirl basketball team exploded for a 33-point win, 86-53, over the Idaho Vandals, on Friday night in Laramie.

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will close out the 2013 non-conference season on the road against the Idaho Vandals, on Saturday, Dec. 21. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 1:00 p.m. MT at the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow. The Cowgirls are 8-2 this season after a double-digit win, 79-65, over Montana on Tuesday night. Kayla Woodward finished the night with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for Wyoming. Besides Woodward, Fallon Lewis finished with 18 points and six rebounds in 40 minutes of play. She was followed by Marquelle Dent with 14 points and Kaylie Rader with 12 points and three assists. The Cowgirls were 29-62 (.468) from the field and 18-28 (.643) from the free throw line. They also out rebounded the Lady Griz, 46-40, and had 21 assists on 29 field goals.

Woodward is averaging a team high 17.0 points plus 7.1 rebounds, while Lewis is adding 15.4 points and a team high 9.0 rebounds. Mileto follows with 13.8 points and Dent leads the way with 4.4 assists plus 8.4 points per game. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 264-626 (.422) from the field while averaging 42.1 rebounds and 74.6 points per game.

The Vandals are 7-5 on the season and lost by one, 85-84, last time out to Eastern Washington. They are led by Stacey Barr who is averaging a team high 16.8 points plus 8.0 rebounds. Alyssa Charlston is adding 15.0 points and a team high 8.3 boards. They return all five starters and eight letterwinners who went 17-15 overall and 11-7 in the WAC last year.

This will be ninth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 5-3. The last time the two teams met was November 9, 2012 as the Cowgirls defeated the Vandals, 86-53, in Laramie. They are coached by Jon Newlee who is in his sixth season with the program.
