The University of Wyoming women's golf team continued action at the UNLV Spring Invitational on Tuesday by shooting a 323 (+35) in the second round to drop to 14th in the team standings. No. 25 Pepperdine leads the tournament after shooting a 278 (-10) in the second round, as more wind at the Boulder Creek Golf Club today made playing conditions difficult.
"With this being our first tournament and our first time seeing green grass this spring, there is going to be some inconsistent play," UW Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "The girls' attitude is good, but they aren't as confident as they need to be. They had some indecisive play today."
After a promising team performance on Monday, freshman Stacey Blunt was the only Cowgirl to improve her stroke total on the second day. Her round of 81 (+9) was three strokes better than her first round. Senior Molly Black also shot an 81 (+9) in the second round, as her even-par 72 in the first round makes her the top Cowgirl in the standings tied for 41st. Sophomore Dana Zamprelli shot UW's lowest round on Tuesday with a 79 (+7) to improve to a tie for 44th in the standings, while junior Juanita Rico carded an 80 (+8) to finish the day tied for 57th.
"All of our girls had good moments in each of their rounds, but we just made some mistakes," Jensen said. "This is the very beginning of the spring season so there is going to be a little ramp-up period, but we need to keep working hard. If we have a solid round tomorrow, we can catch a couple teams ahead of us."
