March 19, 2013
ST. GEORGE, Utah -
Juniors Stacey Blunt and Emily Wood tied for 16th at 230 (+14) to pace the University of Wyoming women's golf team to a seventh-place finish during Tuesday's final round of the BYU Entrada Classic. The Cowgirls carded a 309 (+21) for the fifth-lowest total during the third round and tallied a 923 (+68) in the 15-team field.
"We had another solid round today because our upperclassmen really stepped up and were steady," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "Dana [Zamprelli] fought through some back pain, while Emily [Wood] played fantastic and could have gone even lower. In our two tournaments in the last week it was great to see every member of this team contribute."
Wood notched Wyoming's lowest round of the day at 75 (+3) to move nine spots up the leaderboard and earn her first career top-25 finish. Blunt started the day tied for third, but slid back with an 83 (+11) during the third round for her sixth top-25 finish.
"To finish in the top 20 in this competitive of a field and on this difficult of a course is a great accomplishment for them," Stender said. "They have really improved each year in our program, in all areas of their game."
Sophomore Samantha Stancato and freshman Kathleen Kershisnik tied for 55th at 242 (+26), after rounds of 81 (+9) and 78 (+6), respectively. Senior Dana Zamprelli had a strong showing in the final round with a 75 (+3) to finish tied for 68th at 249 (+33). Redshirt freshman Emily Woodard totaled a 305 (+89) for 84th.
Wyoming is now off until the SDSU Farms Invitational on March 31 through April 2 in Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.
