Wyoming in a Tie for 12th after First Day of Cowgirl Classic

Chandler, Ariz. - After the first day of the fourth annual University of Wyoming Cowgirl Classic the host Cowgirls are currently in a three way tie for 12th place while the University of Texas El-Paso (UTEP) leads the 24 team tournament.

The Cowgirls opened with a team 312 and had a second round 323 to combine for a first day total of 635 (+59). UTEP leads the way with a two round total of 594 (+18) while the University of Nevada-Reno is close on their heels with a first day total of 598 (+22).

Sophomore Juanita Rico is currently in a tie for 30th with her two round total of 155 (+11). She had an opening round of 75 (+3) and when the wind picked up for the second round she followed it up with a second round 80 (+8). Junior Molly Black is not far behind with a first day total of 156 (+12) and a tie for 34th place out of 121 individuals.

The beautiful Arizona sun was out all day but the winds from Wyoming reared their heads during the second round as many scores showed it after the first round.

Senior Jonelle Martinez is currently in a tie for 65th place with one round to go. She was one of few that improved her score from the first round to the second. The two freshmen, Dana Zamprelli and Taylor Smalley round out the field for the Cowgirls with Zamprelli in a tie for 72nd and Smalley in a tie for 109th.

The Cowgirls and the rest of the field will conclude the two day tournament on Tuesday with the 23-team field starting once again with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (PST).
