Freshman Stacey Blunt tied a season-best with a 73 during the final round of the Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday morning at the Ocotillo Golf Resort, as the Wyoming women's golf team finished eighth overall in the 23-team field with a score of 920 (+56). UW's 304 in today's round allowed the host Cowgirls to improve last year's performance by 30 strokes and five team places.

"It was good that we improved our score in today's round, but we still lost a few shots toward the end of the round that really would have helped," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "Overall it was a good note to end the regular season on, so now we can move our focus to the conference championships."

Blunt's one-over par included five birdies to move her into a tie for 23rd in the 121-player field at 228 (+12). Junior Juanita Rico paced UW's effort with a 227 (+11) to tie for 21st, including a 75 on Tuesday morning. Senior Molly Black wrapped up competition with a 76 (+4) to tie for 37th at 231 (+15), while sophomore Dana Zamprelli totaled 238 (+22) to tie for 64th. Sophomore Taylor Smalley rounded out UW's scorers with a 79 (+7) on Tuesday for a 242 (+26).

"She started with some great momentum behind two-straight birdies and continued that through the round," Stender said. "She was hitting her irons really well and that translated to confidence in her stroke."

Portland State wrapped up the team title by 28 strokes with an 871 (+7) to outdistance New Mexico State at 899 (+35), while PSU's Britney Yada won the individual title at 213 (-3) on a scorecard playoff after tying with Northern Colorado's Carleigh Silvers.

Wyoming concludes its spring season at the Mountain West Conference Championship on April 14-16 in Phoenix, Ariz.

"We can be really competitive with the conference teams if we are consistent as a team through three rounds," Stender said. "We haven't done that this season, but we definitely have the potential to."
