Record Breaking Fourth Annual Cowgirl Classic Comes to a Close

Chandler, Ariz., - Under the surprisingly warm Arizona sun, the 2010 University of Wyoming Cowgirl Classic came to a close on Tuesday, April 6, at the gorgeous Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The University of Texas El-Paso (UTEP) took the team title and Stephanie Kim of Northern Arizona took the individual title.
UTEP finished the two day tournament with a Cowgirl Classic record 883 (+19), 25 strokes better than Northern Arizona in 2009. Colorado State came in second and had the tie-breaker over Northern Arizona with their tieing 897 (+33) team score. Individually, the Cowgirl Classic record was once again broken by Kim with her three round 216 (E). Kim started the tournament off with another record breaking round, 68 (-4) and backed it up with two matching 74's (+2).
As for the Cowgirls, they dropped one spot from a day ago and finished in a tie for 13th place out of 23 teams. They finished with a three round total of 950 (+86) on the very challenging Ocotillo course.
The Cowgirls were led by sophomore Juanita Rico as she tied for 25th with a two day total of 229 (+13). Rico began with a 75 (+3) and ended with a 74 (+2), with an 80 (+8) squeezed in between. Rico tied for 11th individually in pars made, with a total of 35 for the tournament. She was followed by junior Molly Black with her tournament total 235 (+19) which put her in a tie for 45th place.
Freshman Dana Zamprelli was the third best finisher for the Cowgirls with her third round 79 (+7), which put her in a tie for 72nd place. Senior Jonelle Martinez and freshman Taylor Smalley rounded out the field for the Cowgirls respectively in a tie for 91st and 108th.
