Play Suspended in Second Round at CSU
Sept. 9, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -
Play was suspended due to weather during the second round of the CSU Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic on Monday. The University of Wyoming women's golf team sit 12th after the opening round, with a score of 311(+23). Being played at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo., the second will continue at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning with the third round to follow immediately after.
Junior Samantha Stancato lead the Cowgirls with a first round score of 73 (+1). Sammi Stevens of New Mexico was the individual leader after the first round with a score of 69 (-3), with Hannah Suh of California one shot behind in second. UNLV's Dana Finelstein rounds out the top three after carding 71 (-1).
"It's great to see Sam come out so strong. I think that has attributed to her maturity on the golf course and her work ethic," UW Head coach Josey Stender said. "I was pleased with the first round as far as us having been in a really good spot with the exception of two or three holes. It seemed like we were for the most part clicking until the lightning delay and then we came out a little flat with one mistake leading to another."
California led all teams with a 291 (+3) in the first round, with New Mexico in second with 294 (+6) and Illinois close behind in third with 295 (+7). The second round was stopped with approximately five holes remaining.
Stancato sat tied for eighth after round one, with her 73 (+1) leading the team. Playing as an individual, freshman Taylor Dorans tied for 33rd after the first round shooting a 77 (+5). Sophomore Kathleen Kershisnik and freshman Mackenzie Barrie finished the first round with a 79 (+7), as they sit in a tie for 49th. Senior Emily Wood shot an 80 (+8) for a 63rd place tie after round one and Stacey Blunt's 83 (+11) score put her in a tie for 76th.
"I think we're in a good position right now, it's obviously still really close and we have about 22 holes left," added Stender. "Anything can happen. I am excited to get back out there and finish where I know we can and hopefully kick start us in for the last round."
Through the first 12 holes of the second round, Stancato and Wood were plus one and plus three, respectively. Kershisnik, plus six and Barrie, plus 14 were each through 14 holes and Blunt was plus 12 through 13 holes. Dorans is plus 6 through 12 holes in the second round.
