High winds sent scores sky-rocketing on Monday at the Bronco Fall Invitational in Kuna, Idaho, but the Wyoming Cowgirl golf team hung tough to remain in contention after two complete rounds.

UW is in third place in the field of 13 teams and trails only Big XII schools Nebraska and Kansas State heading into the final day of play. Throughout the event, team scores soared above 330 and reached as high as 385 in one instance. However, Wyoming scraped together rounds of 323 (+35) in the morning and then 310 (+22) in the afternoon to give themselves a fighting chance heading into the final round.

The Cornhuskers lead the event with a total of 618 (+42) and the Wildcats are in second place at 621 (+45). The Cowgirls are solidly in third place at 633 (+57) followed by Sacramento State, 646.

One final round of 18 holes will be played on Tuesday morning. Wyoming will be paired with Nebraska and Kansas State for round three.

"This morning's round was our toughest of the season so far," said Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender. "This course is really about target golf and elevation change and the wind made it even more difficult. The weather really made everyone try to adjust to the conditions and we just had to keep plugging away. It was important to keep things in perspective today, realize that in golf the conditions are always different and that everyone else was also having a hard time.

"Despite our first round score, we really did a great job of managing the game today and keeping focus. It was important to not be too hard on ourselves today and we did that."

Four Cowgirls are in the top-20 after 36 holes, led by freshman Molly Black and sophomore Sarah Fogerty. Black and Fogerty are tied for fifth place in the field of 78 golfers with marks of 157 (+13). Black was the only Wyoming player to have two rounds in the 70's, scoring 79 (+7) and 78 (+6), while Fogerty was solid all day and stayed away from the big numbers with her rounds of 81 (+9) and 76 (+4).

UW senior Laura Mengelkamp is tied for 13th place at 158 (+14) and freshman Jenna Zamprelli is tied for 20th at 161 (+17).

Kansas State's Michelle Regan leads the individual standings with her 36-hole total of 151 (+7). Nebraska's Allison Stewart is in second place with a score of 154 (+10).

The event, hosted by Boise State, is being playing at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna, which measures 6,193 yards, par 72.
