DENVER - A late goal by Denver's Kristen Hamilton in the 82nd minute lifted the Pioneers to a 2-1 exhibition victory over the visiting Cowgirls Saturday evening at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

Hamilton took a pass from teammate Nicholette Digiacomo and was able to slip it past Wyoming goalie Carmen McDermott for the Denver win.

Going down 1-0 in the 60th minute of regulation, the Cowgirls responded two minutes later to equal the score at 1-1 as sophomore defender Kristin Howard recovered the ball from a scramble in the Denver box and shot it past Pioneer goalie Lara Campbell for a score.

Junior Liz O'Reilly had placed a corner kick into the box at the 60:39 mark before Howard took control of the ball at 61:12 with a goal to the upper right corner.

The squads played an equal opening half as both teams had two shots on goal with both keepers coming up with saves. Wyoming senior goalkeeper Courtney Merkle played the first half of regulation.

The Pioneers finished the game with four shots on goal to the Cowgirls' three, while Denver outshot Wyoming 13-6. The Cowgirls had five corner kicks during the game.

Wyoming returns to Laramie for a Tuesday exhibition matchup with Colorado School of Mines. The game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Admission is free to the public.
