LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team opened the 2003 season with a 2-2 exhibition tie to Regis University at the UW Soccer Stadium Thursday afternoon.

The Cowgirls took an early lead with a goal by freshman Christine Nagel at the 18:07 mark. In the 33 minute, senior Brenna Meadows scored and secured a 2-0 lead that would last until halftime. In the half, Wyoming out-shot Regis 12-0.

Regis came out strong in the second half and cut the Cowgirl lead to 2-1 with a goal 56:46 into the match. The Ranger offense would again click as they tied the game with a 64:28 goal. Neither team was able to score after that point and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

"We got a chance to look at some different players at some different positions," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "Everyone got an opportunity to show what they can do in a game situation and that is what these types of games are all about. Overall, we got to see a lot of situations which made it a very positive game."

The Cowgirl exhibition season will continue Sunday as they play host to Colorado College at the UW Soccer Stadium in a 1 pm match. The Cowgirl regular season will begin on Friday, Aug. 24 as the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Laramie.
