LARAMIE, Wyo. - A controlled offensive tempo by the Cowgirl soccer team led to a 4-2 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Friday evening at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.

Wyoming kept the ball in Maverick territory for the majority of the game as the Cowgirls outshot Nebraska-Omaha 13 to four, including 10 on goal to the Mavericks' three. With the win, Wyoming improves to 4-1-0 for the year while the Mavericks fall to 0-4-0.

"It was good to pick up where we left off last week," said Wyoming coach Pete Cuadrado. "I think we are starting to turn the corner. I'm happy with our progress and we're working together to earn these victories."

Sophomore Lucie McDowell struck first for the Cowgirls as she got behind the Maverick defense following a Sara Paul cross and snuck it past UN-O keeper Meaghan Clark for an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

Senior Olivia Mohtadi added another score in the first half at the 28:28 mark as she took a Paul cross and broke away from the defense for a 2-0 Cowgirl lead going into halftime.

Midway through the second half, sophomore Loren Mahoney took a free kick and hovered the ball deep into the Maverick goal box where Sheree Small headed it in for a 3-0 Wyoming lead.

The Cowgirls scored their final goal of the evening when Mara Cosgrove recovered a loose ball in the Maverick goal box and snuck it into the net following a Paul corner kick. The goal marked the first for Cosgrove this season.

The Mavericks added two scores in the final 10 minutes of play to trim the score to its final margin at 4-2. Wyoming goalie Carmen McDermott earned her second victory on the year, while Paul increased her assists total to four on the year.

Sophomore Kasey Curtis and Paul earned two shots on goal, while three others added one apiece. A total of five Cowgirls registered two shots apiece.
