Laramie, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming Cowgirl team scored early and scored often en route to knocking off the Lady Tigers of Jackson State 9-1 Sunday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Cowgirl scoring rampage began just 6:30 into the first half when Tuva Gulbrandsen scored on an assist from Lindsey Vossbrink. The second Cowgirl goal came at the 14:05 mark when Renee Minero scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Mari Gomes. The Cowgirls would add three more goals in the half coming from Gomes, assisted by Mercy Adetoye, Darci Ferrell from Doreen Thompson and Gomes' second off an assist from Ferrell. Jackson State scored its lone goal of the game with just 35 seconds left in the first half, when Shawnetress Wallace found Aisha Horne. Wyoming would take a 5-1 lead into the locker room at the half. The Cowgirls outshot the Lady Tigers 20-4 in the half.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first with a Gulbrandsen goal, her second of the game and season, at the 61:35 mark. Ferrell would ignite as she scored two more goals to complete the hat trick. The second coming on an assist from Melissa Bowman and Lindsey Vossbrink at 71:05 and her third at 74:15 was unassisted. Brenna Meadows would score the final goal of the game at the 77:05 mark on an assist from Bowman.

The Cowgirls outshot the Lady Tigers 44-6 in the match as freshman goalkeeper Lauren Hawthorne was credited with her first career win. She played all 90 minutes and made three saves on the day. "Overall, we possessed the ball very well today," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "We had lots of scoring opportunities and did a good job of taking advantage of them. Darci had an outstanding game scoring three goals and I was also very impressed with Tuva and Mari's two goal performances."



The Cowgirls will continue a four game road trip as they travel to Drake and Creighton next weekend. They will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 pm and will continue on to Omaha, Neb. for a Sunday afternoon match with Creighton on Sept. 21. Start time at Creighton is scheduled for 1 pm.
