LAS VEGAS - Solid defensive play by the Cowgirl soccer team led to a 0-0 draw with UNLV after two overtimes Saturday afternoon at Peter Johann Field in Las Vegas.

"We battled hard and played well against a UNLV team that's been hot the past few weeks," said Wyoming coach Pete Cuadrado. "To hold them scoreless for 110 minutes shows a strong defensive effort, and we matched their scoring opportunities on the other end of the field."

Sophomore Loren Mahoney led the Cowgirls with three shots, including one on goal, while Olivia Mohtadi, Sydney Jones, Sara Paul and Kasey Curtis each had one shot on goal.

It marked the second consecutive year the Cowgirls and Rebels came to a 0-0 draw as the same result occurred last season in Laramie. It also marked a third consecutive game Wyoming has played in overtime and second straight draw after tying Utah State 1-1 last weekend.

The Rebels had 21 shot attempts to the Cowgirls' seven and had 10 shots on goal to Wyoming's five, but the 10 saves by UW goalkeeper Courtney Merkle and solid defensive play from the backline of Jones, Jenny Johnson, Ashlyn Mazur and Mahoney kept the ball out of the net.

"You always want to win, especially on the road, but I was happy with our effort to fight and keep them from scoring," Cuadrado said. "We'll continue to work on our attack and making better decisions when we have scoring opportunities."

The Cowgirls return to Laramie next weekend for a match with Fresno State slated for Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
