LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head soccer coach, Anne Moore, announced today that three incoming freshmen and one transfer student have signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cowgirls. The new players include Kristen Stangl, of Lonetree, Colo, Tuva Gulbrandsen, of Oslo, Norway, Christine Ronneberg of Vettre, Norway, and Jennifer Bogema, of Aurora, Colo.

"We are very excited with the class we have signed for the upcoming 2002 season," said Moore. "We lost four starters and hope this new class will be able to step in and produce early."

Kristen Stangl, 5'4", defender, Lone Tree, Colo. (Dakota Ridge)

As a sweeper and midfield defender, Stangl will provide great athleticism to the soccer team. As a four-year high school letterwinner, she was named the team captain of the squad for both her junior and senior years. She was also a Who's Who in Sports as a senior, in addition to being named first team All-Conference and honorable mention All-State during her junior season. Other honors Stangl earned include first team All-Conference, first team All-State and Defensive Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and second team All-Conferene as a freshman. She participates on the Colorado Girls Soccer Academy club team, which has won seven State Cup Championships and is a four time regional finalist. The team was ranked sixth in the nation for the past two years. Off the field, Stangl was on the academic honor roll throughout her high school career. She intends to major in business.

"Kristen has played at a high level with her club team and will bring in a lot of experience and composure to our back four," said Moore.

Tuva Gulbrandsen, 5'7", forward, Oslo, Norway (Ulsrud Videregaende)

As a transfer student to UW, Tuva Gulbrandsen will bring great talent to the current Cowgirl roster. Currently, Gulbrandsen plays for Team Strommen, which is in the Premier Women's Division in Norway. A fast and aggressive forward, she scored two goals in the Norweign Championship final, and played an important role in her team's attack. Gulbrandsen comes from the University of Oslo and will have two years remaining. She plans to complete her major in computer science and then work toward a Master's Degree in business while at UW.

Christine Ronneberg, 5'9", forward, Vettre, Norway (Donski Videregaende Skole)

Christine Ronneberg will be likely be a forward for the Cowgirl team. She is currently playing for the Aster soccer club in Norway, which is one of the top clubs in the Premier Division, and during the 2000 season scored over 50 goals in the single-season. She played an active role for the 2001 team, as they went to the finals of the Norway Cup, falling short to a team from Africa. Ronneberg will be coming to Wyoming as a freshman and plans to major in exercise science.

"One area that we were lacking last fall was the fire power up top to score goals in tight games," said Moore. "Hopefully with the addition of the two Noweign players, they will create and finish more opportunities in front of the net. Both have played at the highest level in Norway and bring a great deal of international experience."

Jennifer Bogema, 5'11", defender, Aurora, Colo (Grandview)

A defensive stopper, Bogema will be a great addition to the Cowgirl soccer team, as she lettered in soccer all four years of high school. Although she is still completing her senior season of high school, she has already been named All-Conference and All-State honorable mention for her junior year. She also earned her first team All-Conference and first team All-City honors as a sophomore, as well as the Most Valuable Player for her conference during her freshman year. In addition to her talents on the field, Bogema was All-Academic throughout her high school career. She intends to major in psychology.

"Jennifer will bring great size and athleticism to the center of the field," said Moore. "She is a solid player overall and has a great soccer background as far as her technical ability."
