LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team dropped a 2-0 spring game to the University of Colorado, last Saturday in Boulder, Colo.

In their first outdoor 11 vs. 11 action of the spring, the Cowgirls came out and played a very strong first half, shutting out the Buffaloes. However, the Cowgirls were unable to get any offense of their own and the half ended in a 0-0 tie.

CU, who advanced to the second round of last year's NCAA Soccer Championships and finished the year as Soccer Buzz Magazine's 34th ranked team in the nation, came out strong in the second half and scored a pair of goals to edge the Cowgirls 2-0.

"We played a very good first half and had some really great opportunities to score but couldn't find the back of the net," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "I was very impressed with how our players came out and battled with CU and I felt like we did a good job of keeping the ball on their half of the field. Our back four, Kara (Walters), Carolyn (Clarke), Christina (Best), and Rachel (Schetrom) were organized and we moved the ball especially well in the first half.

"The second half was a different story. CU pressured us hard and we weren't as organized. We ended up giving up two goals on silly breakdowns. Ashley (Sheppard) came up with a breakaway save and we had a few good scoring opportunities but overall we weren't as sharp as we were in the first half."

The Cowgirls spring schedule will continue this weekend as they travel to California for Saturday games with Cal-Poly and UCLA and a Sunday match with Long Beach State. The Cowgirls will close out their spring by hosting a tournament on Saturday, April 16 and with the annual alumni game on Sunday, April 17.
