Cowgirl Soccer Closes Out Spring With Alumni Game

Laramie, Wyo.-- The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team closed out the 2004 spring season with a 3-1 victory over the UW Alumni Team, Saturday morning at the UW Soccer Stadium.

The Cowgirls were led by senior Mari Gomes, who scored two goals in the game. Sophomore Christine Nagel also added a goal of her own on an assist from senior Lindsey Vossbrink.

For the Alumni team, All-Mountain West Conference goalkeeper Lori Scheider saw playing time on the offensive end, scoring the lone Alumni goal.

Following the game, head coach Anne Moore announced the team awards from last fall. Lori Scheider was selected as the Most Valuable Player after leading the Cowgirls to the best finish in school history, 10-9. On the season, Scheider recorded seven shutouts while making 133 saves. She leaves Wyoming with the second most career saves in UW history, 326.

Mari Gomes and Mercy Adetoye were selected as the co-offensive MVP's, Kristin Stangl and Kara Walters were named co-defensive MVP's and Meghan Racette was selected as the most improved Cowgirl.
