Melanie Roberts enters her first year as an assistant coach in the Cowgirl program. Roberts was a four-year letterwinner on the Cowgirl squad from 1997-2000.
Roberts finished up her career at Wyoming by earning All-Mountain West Conference honors following the 2000 season. In her senior campaign Roberts went 15-17 in No. 1 singles and 14-18 in No. 1 doubles. Roberts was also selected as team captain all four of her years at Wyoming. Roberts was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week on March 15, 2000 after an outstanding performance against Iowa State. Not only was Roberts a leader on the court but she was solid off the court as well, earning Academic All-Conference honors three times in her career.
"Melanie is a great addition to the coaching staff," said Wildt. "She has a lot of teaching and playing experience, which will be valuable to our young players. She was very successful as a player and knows what it takes to win."
After earning a degree in communications from Wyoming in 2000, Roberts is now enrolled in the University of Wyoming Law School.
Roberts came to Wyoming from St. Peters, Mo., where she graduated from Fort Zumwalt South High School in 1996. Roberts played in a number of national tournaments as a junior player and was ranked #10 in the Girls 18 age group in the Missouri Valley section. Roberts was also an outstanding high school basketball player, averaging double figures in both scoring and rebounding.
Born April 21, 1978, Melanie is the oldest of three children of Brent and Jan Roberts.
