Cowgirl Tennis Earns Easy Victory, 7-0, Over Eastern Washington

The 61st ranked Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team opened up the 2013 spring season with a 7-0 sweep of the Eastern Washington Eagles. The match was played in Pullman, Wash.
"We were very pleased with the performance of the team tonight," said head coach Dean Clower. "We played like a veteran team throughout. There were a few first match jitters, but we never panicked or veered off course. We have a quick turnaround and have to bring our A game tomorrow morning against Washington State."
In doubles play, the Cowgirls were solid as they earned the first point of the day. The team of Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova defeated Alexis Filliol and Chrissy Uriarte, 8-2. Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva also defeated their opponents Rocio Norena and Ryann Warner, 8-2. The final team in action, Alexandra Kovacs and Sasa Nemcova, were up 6-4 in their match and did not finish.
Wyoming carried over their dominance with a clean sweep in singles play. At the number one position, Kovacs defeated Hedberg, 6-4, 7-6 (4) followed by Nemcova over Patton, 6-3, 6-2. Parizher would come back after losing the first set 6-1, to win the next two, 6-4, 6-2, over Uriarte, while Zhelyazkova won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Helon Ricks. The other two Cowgirls in action were victorious. Gecheva won, 6-1, 6-0 over Kelsey Knight, along with Espinosa against Filliol, 6-3, 6-1.
The Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow morning as they face the 32nd ranked Washington State Cougars to close out the weekend. The match is set for 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time in Pullman.
