LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's tennis team lost to the University of Denver Saturday in Cheyenne 5-2. The match was held at the Frontier Tennis Club and was the first of the spring for Wyoming.
The Cowgirls fell behind early as Denver won all three doubles matches, giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 team score lead. A team must win two-of-three doubles matches to earn one team point.
Wyoming won two singles matches. In the No. 4 singles match Cowgirl freshman Toni Terhaar defeated Rossi Thomas 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 in a hard-fought match. UW's other win came in the No. 5 match, where senior Angela Dossetor defeated Beth Messaros 7-5, 7-6.
The dual against Denver marked the first match of the spring season for the Cowgirl program. It was the fourth match of the spring for Denver.
"You could tell it was our first match of the spring," said Wyoming head coach Pam Wildt. "Denver had some big, aggressive girls and they were match-tough. We've only had about a week of practice since the break, and it was apparent. But this is our starting point and we're only going to improve from here."
