Cowgirl Tennis Falls To Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team continued play against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Sunday morning, in Lincoln. They dropped to 0-2 overall after falling 6-1 to the Cornhuskers.
In doubles action, the Huskers earned the doubles point winning two of the three matches. At No. 2 doubles, juniors Rose Ketmayura and Anna Oehme defeated Patricia Chien and Kati Gyulai, 8-0. Stacey Tomkiewicz and Jennifer Cremieux ousted Gwen Moser and Megan Williams, 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Yuliani Santi and Jennifer Hancock defeated Leslie Harvey and Jennifer Baccarani, 8-5.
In singles action, the Huskers took five of the six matches lead by Harvey's straight set victory over Gyulai, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 Oehme defeated Chien, 6-1, 6-3. Rebecca Harvey defeated Hancock, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, while Kate Garcia defeated Williams, 6-1, 6-1. Cremieux rounded out the Husker victories with a straight set win over Moser, 6-1, 6-0. The only victory for the Cowgirls came at the No. 1 singles spot where, Santi defeated Baccarani , 2-6, 6-4, (10-6).
"With Ani and Jen picking up a doubles win, it was a great win for both of them," said head coach Pam Wildt. "They played very aggressively and did a good job in their match. Ani was also victorious in her singles match, which really comes with her experience and I'm really proud of her effort. Overall, we learned a lot about our team and gained some valuable experience this weekend."
The Cowgirls will have a week off to prepare for their next opponents. They will host Northern Colorado, on Saturday Feb. 15, and Creighton, Saturday Feb. 16. Both games will be played in Cheyenne.
