Cowgirl Tennis Has Tough Outing Against 29th Ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Wyoming tennis team 75th ranked Wyoming Tennis team closed out their road trip with a 6-1 loss against the 29th ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Saturday morning. The Cowgirls are now 2-2 on the young season.
"We played with a lot of intensity today in doubles which is good," said assistant coach Dean Clower. "We have some things to work on for us to succeed in doubles. In singles, Jessica picked up a good win and we are happy with her fight.
Nebraska swept all three matches to begin the day in doubles action to earn the first point. The team of Patricia Veresova and Mary Weatherholt defeated Jessica Parizher and Alexandra Kovacs, 8-3. They would notch the point with an 8-5 win by Janine Weinreich and Jennifer Holmberg over Sasa Nemcova and Christa Gecheva. The other Cowgirl team in action Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova fell to the 53rd ranked team of Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein, 8-5.
In singles action, the Cornhuskers took five of the six matches in order to come away with the match. The only Cowgirl to earn a victory on the day was Jessica Parizher at the number six spot as she defeated Izabella Zgierska, 6-3, 6-4. Synkova lost at the second position to Patricia Veresova, 6-0, 6-2, while Popovici was defeated by 50th ranked Mary Weatherholt, 6-4, 6-1. Stephanie Weinstein earned a straight set win, 6-3, 6-3, over Alexandra Kovacs, as did Janine Weinreich over Silviya Zhelyzkova, 6-3, 6-3. Sasa Nemcova was the final player in action and she came up short to Madeleine Geibert, 6-4, 6-3.
Wyoming will be back on the road next week for three matches. They will play Long Beach State, on Friday, Feb. 10, UC Irvine, on Saturday, Feb. 11, and Loyola Marymount, on Sunday, Feb. 12.
