Cowgirl Tennis Falls 4-3 Against UC Irvine 4-3

The 75th ranked Wyoming Tennis team earned the doubles point but couldn't hold on in singles action as they fell, 4-3 against 56th ranked UC Irvine Anteaters, on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls are now 3-3 in dual play.
"There were a lot of missed opportunities today," said head coach Dean Clower. "We will come back tomorrow, clean up our mistakes and be ready to battle Loyola Marymount."
It was a tough battle in doubles play as Wyoming won two of three matches to earn the point. Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith defeated Christa Gecheva and Sasa Nemcova, 8-1, in the first match of the day. The number three team of Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova earned an 8-6 win over Ali Facey and Stephanie Hammel. It came down to the number one team of Simona Synkova and Alexandra Kovacs. They pulled out a thrilling 9-8 (5) victory over Courtney Byron and Hannah Holladay to notch the point.
For the second straight day it went down to the final match to find out the winner. Simona Synkova played at the number one spot earning a two set win, 6-1, 6-3, over Byron. Zhelyazkova put the Cowgirls up 3-0 win her 6-1, 6-3 win over Ali Facey. Kristina Smith got the Anteaters on the board by defeating Sasa Nemcova, 6-2, 6-0, followed by Kat Facey over Jessica Parizher, 6-4, 6-1. UC Irvine evened up the match as Marivick Mamiit won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 over Christa Gecheva. Goettsching gained the upper hand by taking the first set 6-4 over Alexandra Kovacs. It was all tied up at 3-3 in the second until Goettsching won the final three sets to win the match, 6-4, 6-3.
Wyoming will close out play tomorrow against the Loyola Marymount Lions. The match is set for 12:00 p.m. MT.
