IRVINE, Calif. -

The 75th ranked Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis team (5-2 overall) wrapped up their weekend with a 4-3 win over the 65th ranked UC Irvine Anteaters on Sunday afternoon.

"This was a great team effort today," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "They all contributed in the line-up. We started off strong in doubles and were able to hold on to the lead to win the doubles point. We knew UC-Irvine would take it to us in singles and they did in the first set on almost every court. Rebecca and Kim battled back from a set down and clinched the match for us."

The Cowgirls took two out of three matches to earn the point. Alexandra Kovacs and Rebecca Berger defeated Courtney Byron and Kristine Smith, 8-6, while the team of Carly Van Hollen and Veronica Popovici earned an 8-2 win over Franziska Goettsching and Brooke Schweyer, 8-2.

In singles play, Wyoming edged out UC Irvine by winning three of the six matches. Simona Synkova defeated Kristina Smith, 6-1, 6-2. Kim van Ginkel pulled out a three set win, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, over Fraziska Goettsching, as did Rebecca Berger, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6, over Hannah Holladay.
