Wyoming Tennis Falls Short against Buffs, 5-2

In their only match of the week, the Cowgirl tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against the Colorado Buffaloes, on Friday, in Boulder. UW is now 2-2 overall, while Colorado moves to 4-3 overall.
"We lost a tough match today," said head coach Dean Clower. "We played good in doubles to earn the point. In singles, we battled, but just fell short in a couple tight matches."
The Cowgirls started off strong by taking two out of three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0. The number one team of Jessica Parizher and Veronica Popovici defeated Winde Janssens and Nuria Ormeno Ruiz, 8-7, while Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva clinched the point with an 8-7 (5) win over Alexandra Aiello and Carla Manzi Tenorio. Dorottya Jonas and Alena Vasileva fell to Ashley Tiefel and Julyette Steur, 8-3.
The momentum shifted over the the side of the Buffaloes in singles play as they won five of six matches. The only Cowgirl to take a match was Silviya Zhelyazkova who beat Carla Manzi Tenorio, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6). Janssens defeated Parizher, 6-4, 6-4, to earn the first point of the day for CU. Steur won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (14-12), over Popovici, followed by Jonas who won the first 6-1, but fell 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the next two. Colorado clinched the match as Ormeno Ruiz defeated Gecheva, 6-1, 6-3. At the number six position, Espinosa was defeated by Dhany Quevedo, 6-2, 6-3.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday, March 1, as they host Metro State. The match is set for 12:00 p.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
