LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming won four of the six individual matches and won the doubles point on their way to a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green Thursday in Cheyenne. The Cowgirls received wins from two freshman and their two upperclassmen in the victory.
The key to the victory came in doubles action, where Wyoming won two of the three matches, thus earning the one team point out of doubles play. The UW doubles teams of Jenny Bowman/Angela Dossetor and Toni Terhaar/Paulina del Monte both won their matches. Bowman and Dossetor won their match 8-4 and Terhaar and del Monte won 8-6. The Cowgirl team of Stacy Kneese and Sofi Espinosa lost their match 8-6
Freshman Jenny Bowman won her No. 1 singles match over Meghan Rhodes 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. It was a big win for Wyoming as it extended their lead. Espinosa won the match at No.3 singles over Erika Wasilewski 7-6, 7-5. Wyoming's lone senior Angela Dossetor defeated Lisa Maloney 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Freshman Toni Terhaar defeated Gaby Coello 6-4, 2-6 (10-7) in the No. 5 singles match.
With the victory Wyoming moved its overall record to 3-5 on the season.
"The key to our victory was winning the doubles point," said Wyoming head coach Pam Wildt. "Earning that point really fired us up. By winning that point, it totally turned our team around. Instead of going into singles action a little nervous, we had some confidence. We played really well and we're excited to get the victory. It was a nerve-racking match, but it turned out well for us."
