Wyoming Tennis Completes Weekend with 7-0 Win over Bears

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming tennis team wrapped up the weekend with a 7-0 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears, on Sunday in Laramie. The Cowgirls are now 4-2 overall, while the Bears drop to 5-5 on the season.
"This weekend was very good for the team," said head coach Dean Clower. "I feel we have taken steps forward in getting where we want to be. Our doubles has improved tremendously since day one. Our upperclassmen are leading and our freshman have stepped up. Thanks again to the great fans who came out to support us."
For the second straight day, Wyoming started off on a strong note by sweeping all three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0. The number one team of Jessica Parizher and Veronica Popovici defeated Stephanie Catlin and Beth Coton, 8-5. Dorottya Jonas and Alena Vasileva beat Adriana Nieto and Courtney Schulte, 8-4, while did Christa Gecheva and Alma Espinosa earned an 8-7 (7-4) win over Chrissie Hoolahan and Laura Wehner.
The momentum stayed on the side of the Cowgirls as they swept all six matches. Popovici won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, against Catlin as did Jonas over Hoolahan, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. At the third position, Parizher only lost three games as she defeated Hilary Walters-West, 6-2, 6-1. Gecheva held on to a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Wehner followed by Silviya Zhelyazkova against Coton, 6-3, 6-3. The final Cowgirl in action was Vasileva who also won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) against Schulte.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Friday, March 7, as they face the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The match is set for 3:00 p.m. in Lincoln.
