Wyoming Earns Win Over Gonzaga 5-2

The University of Wyoming women's tennis team beat Gonzaga 5-2 Sunday to win for the second straight day and take two of three duals over a busy weekend in Bozeman, Mont.
UW lost to Montana State 4-3 Friday before beating Montana 5-2 Saturday and closing the weekend with the win over Gonzaga. By taking two of three over the weekend the Cowgirls evened their match record at 4-4 on the season.
"We had a great day against Gonzaga," Cowgirl coach Pam Wildt said. "The girls played good tennis."
The Cowgirls swept all three doubles matches for the second consecutive day. The sophomore duo of Jenny Bowman and Jennifer Hancock ganged up on Jaime Buterbaug and Sirrah Williams 8-2 in number-one doubles, Yuliani Santi and Paulina del Monte won in the second position and Toni Teerhar and Kati Gyulai won the number-three doubles.
With the doubles point in the bag UW rolled through the top four singles flights. Bowman, Santi and Hancock -- all sophomores -- won for the third straight day. Bowman topped Buterbaug 6-7, 6-0 (10-3) at the number-one position, Santi defeated Aaryn Volkmann 6-0, 6-2 in the second flight and Hancock dropped Katie Sanders 6-3, 6-3 in number-three singles play.
Paulina del Monte nabbed her second win of the weekend in the four spot, beating Williams in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. The Bulldogs rallied to win at the number-five and six spots for their two points.
The Cowgirls return to the court Saturday, March 9, squaring off on the road versus Denver University.
