March 3, 2007
PULLMAN, Wash. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (4-4 overall) came back from a defeat the previous night and earned a 6-1 victory over the Eastern Washington Eagles, on Saturday, in Pullman, Wash.
"I thought our doubles play really set the tone for the whole match today," said UW head coach Krissy Hall. "We did a nice job of coming back after yesterday's loss to earn a victory. We'll see how we fare against Washington State tomorrow."
In doubles play, the Cowgirls got the early jump as they won all three matches to take the doubles team point. The number one UW team of Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski defeated Rachel Berger and Iliana Petrova, 8-7 (7-4). Cowgirls Corina Lazar and Amy Senko earned an 8-4 win over the team of Kasey Knox and Amanda Mankovits, while the Wyoming number three team of Jamie Nelson and Sarah Summerfield closed things out with an 8-6 win over Kerstyn Dolack and Marie Demerath.
The Cowgirls swept all but one match in singles play to win the match. Summerfield rebounded from a loss yesterday and won in straight sets, 6-3-6-4, as did Rowinski against Petrova, 6-1, 6-2. At the number three spot Lazar defeated Dolack, 6-3, 6-1, while it took House three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 10-1, over Mankovits. Nelson was the final Cowgirl to win her match as she defeated Demerath, 1-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-8. Senko lost a tough three set match, 7-5, 6-7 (7-5), 11-9, against Berger.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the weekend Sunday against the Washington State Cougars beginning at 9:00 a.m MT in Pullman, Wash.
