Cowgirl Tennis Wraps up Weekend with 5-2 Loss against Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (4-5 overall) closed out their weekend with a 5-2 loss against the Washington State Cougars on Sunday morning in Pullman.
In doubles play, the Cougars took the early lead as they won all three matches to take the doubles point. The number one UW team of Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski fell 8-1 to Amy Toth and Marjolein van de Ven, while Aleksandra Cekic and Aleksandra Stefanova defeated Cowgirls Corina Lazar and Amy Senko, 8-5. Wyoming's Jamie Nelson and Sarah Summerfield didn't finish their match against Anastesia Opata and Ashley Spicer.
Washington State took four of the six singles matches in order to come away with the victory. At the number five position, House won the first set 6-0 over Spicer and then won after Spicer retired. The only other Cowgirl to win was Nelson as she defeated Opata, 0-6, 7-6, 1-0. Summerfield fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, against Toth, as did Rowinski against van de Ven, 6-2, 6-2. At the number three spot Cekic defeated Lazar, 6-2, 6-4, while Senko lost to Stefanova, 6-3, 6-0.
The Cowgirls will be off until next week when they travel to Florida to take on South Florida, on Sunday, March 11.
