Wyoming Tennis Opens up Weekend with 5-2 Loss to Nebraska

The Wyoming tennis team started off the weekend with a 5-2 loss against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Friday after, in Lincoln. The Cowgirls are now 4-3 overall.
"We had several opportunities to make things happen today," said head coach Dean Clower. "We played hard and I'm proud of the effort. Hats off to Nebraska who played more aggressive then we did at crucial times. We need to have a short memory and get ready to take on a very tough Miami team in the morning."
The Cornhuskers jumped out to an early lead to by winning the doubles point. The team of Hannah Sulz and Lisa Andersoon won the first match of the day, 8-2, over Alena Vasileva and Dorottya Jonas while Maggy Lehmicke and Mary Hanna clinched the point with an 8-4 victory over Veronica Popovici and Jessica Parizher. Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva were ahead of Maike Zeppernick and Izabella Zgierska, 6-5, but the match wasn't finished.
In singles action, Nebraska took four of six matches on the day. Christa Gecheva won the first point for the Cowgirls defeating Hanna, 6-4, 3-0 (ret.). Lehmicke put the Cornhuskers up 2-1 with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Popovici followed by Zgierska in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, over Jonas. Zeppernick sealed the win for Nebraska with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Silviya Zhelyazkova. In the final two matches, Andersson defeated Parizher in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, while Alena Vasileva pulled out a three set win, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-7), against Sulz.
The Cowgirls will close out the weekend on Saturday, March 8, as they face the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks. The match is set for 11:00 a.m. MT. in Lincoln.
