Five Singles Wins Give Cowgirls Victory Over Hatters

The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team (5-6 overall) rebounded from a loss three days earlier with a 5-2 victory over the Stetson Hatters, on Wednesday afternoon, in Deland, Fla.
In doubles play, the Hatters jumped out early as they won all three matches to take the team doubles point. UW's number one team of Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski fell in a tough one 9-8 to Virginia Galbarini and Anna Leonenko, while Catherine Canady and Katherine Nowicki defeated Cowgirls Corina Lazar and Sarah Summerfield, 8-3. At the number three position, Wyoming's Michelle Brown and Amy Senko lost to Breanna Atkinson and Katherine St. Clair, 8-3.
Wyoming would then mount a comeback as they won five of the six singles matches to take home the team win. At number two singles, Rowinski needed three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0, to defeat Atkinson. Lazar earned a two set win, 6-3, 6-1, over Leonenko, as did House against Nowicki, 6-4, 7-6 (2). At the number five spot, Brown defeated Canady, 6-3, 6-3, while Wyoming's Jamie Nelson closed things out, 6-4, 5-7, 3-0 (ret.) against Samantha Lange.
Wyoming will close out their week long road trip against the Jacksonville Dolphins, on Friday, March 16, in Jacksonville.
