March 13, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's tennis team lost to Texas Christian University 7-0 Monday in Ft. Worth, Tex. Wyoming won one doubles match but was swept in singles action.
TCU, ranked #30 in the country, won two of the three doubles matches to earn the one doubles team point. In the No. 3 doubles match the UW team of Paulina del Monte and Toni Terhaar defeated TCU's Leoni Weirich and Brenna Shackelford 8-6. But TCU won the other two doubles matches to earn the team point.
In singles action the Cowgirls were swept in the six matches. The closest match came at the No. 4 singles spot, where Wyoming freshman Stacy Kneese lost to Saber Pierce 3-6, 6-3 (11-9). The match went to the tiebreaker set, where Kneese fell just short.
"This was our first match outside," said Wyoming head coach Pam Wildt. "Playing against a top team like TCU made it difficult. Our doubles teams actually played very well and we were able to win one of the matches. But this was a good experience for us and we'll prepare for two more matches this week."
