Wyoming Tennis Falls 5-2 Against 41st Ranked Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. -
The Cowgirl tennis team continued play on the road and suffered a 5-2 loss against the 41st ranked Long Beach State 49ers on Friday afternoon. They are now 7-6 overall and 1-0 in MW play this spring.
Long Beach State jumped out early by sweeping all three doubles matches. The number one team of Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova were defeated by Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg, 8-6. Alexandra Kovacs and Sasa Nemcova battled but fell 9-8 (7-3) against Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay. The final team in action was Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova who lost to Anna Jeczmionka and Anne-Sophie Willems, 8-4.
In singles action, the Cowgirls couldn't mount a big enough comeback as they only won two matches in singles action. Sasa Nemcova won at the four spot over Rozenberg, 6-3, 1-6, retired, while Parizher defeated Jeczmionka in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). At the number one position, Unden beat Popovici, 6-1, 6-2, followed by Malenovksa over Synkova, 6-0, 6-2. The 49ers wrapped up the match as Cantlay beat Kovacs, 7-5, 6-4, and Willems won in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, over Christa Gecheva.
The Cowgirls will close out the weekend against the 23rd ranked UC Irvine on Sunday, March 24. The match is set for 12:00 p.m. MT.
