Cowgirl Tennis Team Falls to Air Force 6-1

March 31, 2001

The University of Wyoming tennis team lost to Air Force 6-1 Saturday in Colorado Springs.

Freshman Stacy Kneese was the only Cowgirl to win her singles match in the dual, which was the first conference dual of the season for Wyoming. Kneese, from Montrose, Colo., won her match at the No. 3 singles slot to earn UW its only team point.

The Wyoming doubles team of Jenny Bowman and Angela Dossetor won their match in a three-set tiebreaker 9-8. Air Force won the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles team point.

"We actually started off pretty well," said Wyoming head coach Pam Wildt. "Both Jenny Bowman and Sofi Espinosa won the first set in their singles matches and things were looking good for us. But they both ended up losing in three-set matches that put the momentum back in Air Force's favor. It was our first conference match and I'm pleased with how the girls played. Now we just need to get ready for New Mexico on Sunday."

With the loss Wyoming's overall record dropped to 4-8 and 0-1 in the Mountain West Conference. Complete individual results were not available. The Cowgirls return to action on Sunday against New Mexico at 10:00 a.m. in Colorado Springs.
