LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team had a tough day as they wrapped up the weekend with a 7-0 loss to the New Mexico Lobos, on Sunday morning, in Laramie. The Cowgirls are now 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference, while UNM improves to 12-7 overall and 4-0 in the MWC.
In doubles play, the Lobos had an easy time as they swept all three matches. The number one team of Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski fell to Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek, 8-1. New Mexico's Michelle Hedibrink and Tiffany Robertson ousted Corina Lazar and Amy Senko, 8-0, at the No. 2 spot, while the team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser came up short against Nora Quintal and Lucy Scott, 8-2.
The Cowgirls also fell short in singles play as New Mexico won all six singles matches led by Iva Gersic with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Patricia Chien. Corina Lazar had a few opportunities in her match but came up short against Maja Kovacek, 6-2, 7-5, as well as sophomore Karolina Rowinski who fell to Michelle Heidbrink, 6-4, 7-5. The Lobos' Nora Quintal won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 over freshman Kim Romero, while Andrea House fell 6-2, 6-4 to Lucy Scott at the No. 5 spot. Tiffany Robertson wrapped up the match with a two set win, 6-2, 6-2, over Amy Senko.
"I felt like we played hard to today, unfortunately a few matches didn't go our way," said head coach Pam Wildt. "New Mexico is tough and one of the top teams in the conference, but I still feel we did some good things."
Wyoming will be on the road next week as they travel to Ft. Collins, Colo. to face the San Diego State Aztecs and the UNLV Lady Rebels.
