Cowgirls Fall To Utes

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis Team lost 5-2 against the Utah Utes, on Saturday afternoon, at the UW Tennis Complex in Laramie. The Cowgirls drop to 7-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play, while the Utes improve to 5-12 overall and 1-6 in the MWC.
Utah grabbed the doubles point after taking two of three matches. The No. 2 team of Patricia Chien and Kati Gyulai were the only team that came away with a victory after earning an 8-1 win over Cassie Kasteler and Hilary Doyle. At the No. 1 spot Yuliani Santi and Jen Hancock fell to Ellen Svensson and Allison Hansen, 8-4 , while Maria Svensson and Sheri Esrock defeated Gwen Moser and Megan Williams, 8-1.
Despite some close matches in singles play, only two Cowgirls came away with victories. Senior Kati Gyulai earned a 7-6, 6-0 win at the No. 3 slot over Cassie Kasteler, while junior Jen Hancock rebounded from her loss yesterday to take her match 6-4, 6-2 over Rachel Alder. Freshman Patricia Chien lost a close one falling to Ellen Svensson 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 slot. The Utes closed out singles play with Allison Hansen defeating Megan Williams, 6-2, 6-4, and Gwen Moser falling to Maria Svensson, 6-4, 6-0.
The Cowgirls will wrap up the weekend tomorrow against the Colorado State Rams at noon in Ft. Collins. They will close out the regular season next week by hosting the Montana State Lady Cats, on Friday morning, at 11:00 a.m.
