Cowgirls Dropped By Falcons

Laramie, Wyo.-- The University of Wyoming women's tennis team closed the regular season Sunday with a 7-0 loss to Mountain West Conference opponent Air Force at the Lobo Tennis Club in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cowgirls (6-12 overall) closed the season 1-6 in conference matches. UW now gears for the MWC Championships April 25-27 in Provo, Utah. Air Force took two of three doubles matches to seize the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Wyoming sophomore Yuliani Santi combined with junior Paulina del Monte for a 9-7 win in no. 2 doubles over Heather Shelby and and Gina Black. The Falcons' duo of Brooke Parsons and Laura Nigro topped Cowgirls Jenny Bowman and Jennifer Hancock 8-5 in no. 1 doubles while Kelli O'Bryant and Ashley Gee claimed an 8-2 win over UW's Toni Terhaar and Kati Gyulai in the third position. Holding the 1-0 lead, the Falcons won all six singles contests to close out the match. Del Monte won Wyoming's lone singles set, a 6-3 second set win over O'Bryant in no. 4 singles. Parsons topped Bowman 6-4, 6-2 in no. 1 singles, Nigro earned a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Santi in the second position, Hancock fell 6-4, 6-3 to Shelby in no. 3 singles, Gyulai was topped by Black 6-1, 6-1 in no. 5 singles and Terhaar lost 6-1, 6-0 to Gee at the no. 6 position.
