Cowgirls Fall In First Round Of Conference Tournament to UNLV

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
The third-seeded UNLV Lady Rebels defeated the sixth-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls in first round action of the 2004 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championships Thursday in San Diego.
The Lady Rebels gained control of the match early by earning the doubles point. The team of Agnieszka Abram and Anne Clare Ortiz-Luis defeated the team of Yuliani Santi and Amy Senko, 7-2. In number two doubles play, the team of Gyorgyi Zsiros and Claire Smith earned a win over Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski, 8-1. UNLV picked up another doubles victory when Cindy Treber and Mery Constanti defeated Jennifer Hancock and Andrea House, 8-3.
In singles play, Gyorgyi Zsiros defeated top Cowgirl Patricia Chien 6-2, 6-1 to give the Lady Rebels their second team point. Claire Smith picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win over Amy Senko, while Anne Clare Ortiz-Luis wrapped up the dual match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jennifer Hancock.
The Cowgirls will now play the seventh-seeded Utah Utes on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. MT in the consolation round.
