Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Wyoming tennis team wrapped up play on Saturday and Sunday at the U.S.A.F. Invitational in Colorado Springs.

In singles action, freshman Karolina Rowinski had an impressive weekend with victories over Marina Gando of McNeese State, 7-6, 7-5, and Tara Browning of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-3, before falling to Gina Black of Air Force, 6-4, 6-2, in the first place match. Andrea House also topped her weekend with a two set win over Hristiyana Gocheva of Texas Tech as did Gwen Moser over Allison Liu of McNeese State, 6-2, 6-3, before coming up short against Hristiyana Gocheva of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Megan Williams won her opening match on Saturday against Crystal Knysh of Denver, 6-2, 6-4, but fell to Yolandie Beukes of McNeese State in a tough three set match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, and Stephanie Ginsburg of Denver, 6-1, 6-2. In that same flight, freshman Amy Senko struggled with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Barb Kourim of Denver, a two set loss against Iva Gyurgina of Texas Tech and Katja Kovacic of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-4.

In flight one action, Patricia Chien rebounded with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kara Loubser of McNeese State and Tara Browning of Texas Tech, 7-5, 6-2 after falling to Rachel Sackmaster of Denver, 6-3, 6-1. Senior Jennifer Hancock fell short in her match against Kat Bushey of Air Force in two sets, 7-5, 6-3, and Iva Gyurgina of Texas Tech, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8, but earned a win over Kelly Morgan, 6-3, 6-4, of Air Force. Senior Yuliani Santi wrapped up her weekend with two consecutive wins over Karrisa Walker of Air Force, 6-3, 6-2, and Mariisa Mecham of Denver, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, the team of Yuliani Santi and Jennifer Hancock split with a victory over Magali Risoleo and Yolandie Beukes of McNeese State, 8-5, but fell short to Jenny Trettin and Barbara Kourim of Denver, 8-3. Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski earned a win over Madeleine Hakansson and Marina Gando of McNeese State, 8-2 unfortunately they lost to Marisa Mechem and Rachel Sackmaster of Denver, 8-6. The team of Amy Senko and Gwen Moser struggled as they lost both of their doubles matches.

 

 

"I'm definitely proud of our sinlges play and we're making improvements as a team, " said head coach Pam Wildt. "We had some good wins and made it into two of the four finals which is a good accomplishment. Overall, this weekend helped us determine where we're going so far this season."

The Cowgirls will be back in action Oct. 22-26 at the Central Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah.
