Doubles Team Reaches Semifinals at ITA Championships

The duo defeated Michaela Bezdickova and Lizette Blankers of New Mexico, 8-0, to move into the next round tomorrow. They will face conference foe Lucia Batta and Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV.
In singles action, the pair had a tough outing. Popovici fell to the 32nd ranked Josifoska, 6-2, 6-2, while Jonas lost to the 66th ranked Sarah Pham of Utah, 6-3, 6-2.
"Another good day for Cowgirl tennis," said head coach Dean Clower. "We played solid doubles with a ton of aggression. In singles, we played extremely hard and very tough. We didn't win every match, but we did all the right things to get better as a team. Congratulations to Veronica and Dorottya for their performance thus far. We are definitely on the right track and hope to continue that in the semifinals tomorrow."
In back draw consolation singles play, three Cowgirls earned victories on the day. Christa Gecheva beat Paulina Lopez of Montana State, 6-0, 6-0, while Silviya Zhelyazkova defeated Carla Manzi, 7-6, 7-6. The last Cowgirl in action was Alena Vasileva who won her match, 6-2, 6-2, over Sara Brown of Boise State. The doubles team of Parizher and Zhelyazkova lost to Radosevic and Schnell of Denver, 8-6.
The ITA Mountain Regional Championships will conclude tomorrow in Las Vegas.
