LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Sophomore tennis ace Jenny Bowman played outstanding today on her way to win the Aggie Invitational Singles title. The tournament was hosted by New Mexico State University this weekend. Bowman defeated NMSU's Harriet Piercy 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 for the championship of the 32 woman draw.
The Cowgirls also won the doubles championship. Bowman and Jennifer Hancock handily defeated Michelle Mohr and Kristen Balk of Northern Arizona, 8-1, bringing home the trophy.
"We're coming home winners of the tournament," said UW's head tennis coach Pam Wildt. "Everyone played very well. It's great to come home with both the singles and doubles trophies. We've had a great fall season."
Both Hancock and Paulina del Monte defeated their opponents in their final round of singles today while the other three Cowgirls were beaten in two sets each. The finals of doubles was victorious for both UW teams, however.
Along with the championship trophy by Bowman and Hancock, Toni Terhaar and Yuliani Santi held on for the win over UTEP's Tea Spirta and Kendal Exelby, 8-6.
The invitational tournament wraps up regular season play for the Cowgirl's fall campaign before Central Regionals Oct. 24-28 in Tulsa, Okla.
