Cowgirl Tennis Wraps Up Play at Central Regionals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team wrapped up their fall season with five players in singles action on Friday at the ITA Central Region Championships in Salt Lake City.
In the main draw of singles play, UW freshman Sarah Summerfield and junior Corina Lazar continued their strong play. Summerfield defeated her first opponent of the day, Rachel Sackmaster of Denver, in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, but fell short in the round of 16 against the third seeded Lauren Jones of BYU, 6-3, 6-0. Lazar won her first match 6-4, 6-4 over Leslie Vial of Northern Arizona. Unfortunately, she came up short, 6-1, 7-5, against Monica Milewski of Colorado, who was the second seed.
In the round of 32 in the singles back draw, three Cowgirls competed including Andrea House, Michelle Brown and Karolina Rowinski. House lost to Kaja Smole of Denver in two sets, 7-6, 6-2, while Brown fell 6-3, 6-2 against Chie Hayasaka of BYU. Senior Rowinski also came up short against Kyla Iwinski of Denver, 6-3, 6-4.
Wyoming will resume play on January 26 against the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
