LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming Cowgirl tennis player Sarah Summerfield will be out the remainder of the season after suffering a season ending left knee injury, according to head coach Krissy Hall.

Summerfield suffered the injury on her left knee during her doubles match against the University of New Mexico, on Saturday, April 14, in Albuquerque. A date for surgery will be scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

A 5-4, freshman from Chester, N.J., she was the Cowgirls' number one singles player and had posted a record of 13-15 overall and 3-2 in the MWC. Summerfield went 7-4 during the fall, and advanced to the round of 16 at the Central Regional Tournament.

"We are very disappointed for Sarah," said Hall. "She was making so much progress and has been a great asset to this team. It's difficult to see a player go down."

The rehabilitation process should take approximately six to eight months, and she is expected to make a full and complete recovery.
