2000-2001 Cowgirl Tennis Informational Press Release

Sept. 12, 2000

This Week: The University of Wyoming women's tennis team will kickoff its 2000-2001 season this weekend as the Cowgirls dual with the University of Northern Colorado Bears. The match begins at 12:00 p.m. at the UW Tennis Courts.

Cowgirls Look for Repeat Performance: Wyoming defeated Northern Colorado 6-3 in last year's season opener. The Cowgirls dominated the match and were led by Sarah Kay, Sofi Espinosa and Shirley Mendoza. All three players won both their individual and doubles matches. Current Cowgirls Angela Dossetor and Paulina del Monte also played in the victory.

Tennis Team to Host Mixer: The Wyoming tennis team will host a mixer on Wednesday at the UW Tennis Courts. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. The mixer will offer area tennis fans the opportunity to meet and play points with the Cowgirls, assistant coach Melanie Roberts and head coach Pam Davis. Fans can mingle with and get tennis tips from the Cowgirls. There are opportunities to win t-shirts and other prizes and to enjoy snacks from Home Bakery. Fans are encouraged to bring their racquets and come join in on the fun.

Davis Enters Second Season: Wyoming head coach Pam Davis is in her second year at UW. Wyoming had an overall record of 8-14 during the 1999-2000 season, including 1-7 in the Mountain West Conference. Davis came to Wyoming from East Tennessee State, where she had a record of 41-34 in four years.

Cowgirls to Feature Five Newcomers: Wyoming will be counting on five newcomers in the 2000-2001 season. All of the new players are freshman, and each of them brings talent and exciting ability to the Cowgirl squad. The newcomers are Jennifer Bowman, Jennifer Hancock, Stacy Kneese, Ani Santi and Toni Terhaar. The returnees are senior Angela Dossetor, junior Sofia Espinosa and sophomore Paulina del Monte. Espinosa had 11 victories last year, while Dossetor had eight and del Monte had seven.
