Las Cruces, N.M.-- The Wyoming Cowgirl Tennis Team wrapped up three days of competition at the New Mexico State Invitational over the weekend in Las Cruces, N.M.

In open singles play red division, freshman Megan Williams was the top player for the Cowgirls during the first two days of competition. She defeated Alice Tutor of New Mexico State, 7-6, 6-2, Natalie Lansdale of NMSU in two 6-0, 6-1, but fell to Adi Boykova of UTEP 7-5, 7-5. Junior Jennifer Hancock was victorious over Danielle King of UTEP by default and Kate Hodge, NMSU, 6-2, 6-0 in open singles blue consolation play after falling to Stella Veerman, 6-1, 6-4, earlier in the tournament. Also in singles play, Kati Gylai fell short to Sandra Mayor of NMSU in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, and Kendal Exelby, UTEP, 6-1, 6-0. Yuliani Santi was defeated by Isabelle Mignot, 3-6, 7-6, 6-7, but rebounded with a victory over Samantha May, NMSU, in two sets 6-0, 6-1. In open doubles play, the team of Jen Hancock and Megan Williams fell to Kate Hodge and Lejla Porobic, 8-2, but came back in the doubles consolation round defeated Samantha May and Sandra Mayr of New Mexico State, 8-1. The team of Kati Gyulai and Yuliani Santi were victorious over Natalie Lansdale and Alice Tutor, 8-1, before falling to Isabelle Mignot and Stelia Veerman, 8-5.

In a final day cut short by rain, the Cowgirls were victorious in all four singles matches that were played. Jen Hancock defeated Sandra Mayr of New Mexico State 6-2, 6-0, Yuliani Santi defeated Kate Hodge of NMSU, 6-2, 6-4, Kati Gyulai beat Natalie Lansdale, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Megan Williams defeated Kristin Minkowski of Marquette.

The Cowgirls will wrap up their fall competition at the Rolex Central Regionals on Oct. 22-28.
