In their second match of the Mean Green Classic, the Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team (4-2 overall) continued their winning ways with another three-game win (30-27, 30-25, 30-28) over the North Texas Mean Green (0-8 overall), on Friday night, in Denton, Texas.

Sophomore Rachel Smith led the way for the Cowgirls with nine kills, seven digs and four block assists. She was followed by Andrea Seele with eight kills and Lauren Scott with seven. Carissa Lee recorded double-figures in digs for the sixth straight match as she finished with 18. The Cowgirls finished the night hitting .141 (39-20-135) while recording 12 total team blocks.

"This North Texas team came out, played a great match and really battled," said head coach Pat Stangle. "I thought our team really kept their composure and did what they needed to do in order to win. This was a nice victory for our team on the road, and we need to continue that in to the match tomorrow."

It was a much tougher match than the one earlier in the day as the two teams really battled back and forth. With it all tied up at four all, the Cowgirls went on an 8-3 run to take the 12-7 lead. They would maintain a three or four point advantage, but North Texas would come back. Down 20-15, they scored the next eight of 12 to pull within one, 24-23. Wyoming kept their composure and closed things out to win the first game, 30-27.

Game two saw the teams go point for point with neither one gaining more than a one or two point advantage. With the score even at 12 all, the Cowgirls jumped out with a small run to go up by three. The Mean Green wouldn't go away as a 7-2 scoring run gave them the lead, 23-22. Wyoming quickly answered with five straight points to go up for good and win the game 30-25.

This time it was the Cowgirls turn to make a come back as North Texas gained a 10-6 advantage in game three. UW scored 11 of 14 points to take over the lead 17-14. They would hold on to that lead until another rally by the Mean Green made the score all tied up at 25 all. Again this young Cowgirl team kept it together and held on to take the game 30-28 and the match 3-0.

The Cowgirls will wrap up tournament play tomorrow as they will face Centenary College beginning at Noon MT.
